Clean Energy  Certificates

A fast and easy way to verify the renewable origin of green products

How can you certify your green product?

As the world embraces energy transition, the global demand for sustainable manufacturing has never been higher. More and more companies want to demonstrate GHG reductions or CO2 emissions in their products. Additionally, there is a growing demand to prove the sustainability of green products like sustainable aviation fuel (SFA), synthetic fuels, green steel, and other commodities.

Haru Oni – discover certified e-fuel from wind and water

The Clean Energy Certificate system is already proving the green origin of the e-fuels applications in the Porsche motorsport fleet at Haru Oni. The project demonstrates a broad spectrum of innovative, climate-relevant technologies at one location. Synthetic fuel is produced from water, wind energy and CO2 captured from the air. This fuel is a liquid energy carrier that emits about 90% less CO2 than its fossil counterpart. In the case of e-gasoline, it is instantly compatible with existing liquid fuel infrastructure.

Verify and certify renewable sources of your product along the entire value chain

Siemens Energy has established a blockchain partner ecosystem and launched the Clean Energy Certificate. With the help of blockchain and by connecting physical assets to the digital decentral infrastructure, the Clean Energy Certificate can help you prove your product is manufactured from renewable sources. Products will automatically be tagged with a certificate which will identify the product’s energy origin and carry this from source to consumption, giving customers detailed insight into its low carbon intensity and other energy attributes along the entire supply chain.

Blockchain simplifies sustainability certification

Blockchain technology makes it easy to track renewable energy from source to consumption and bridges the increasing gap between supply and demand of certified renewable energy in an efficient, transparent, and tamper-proof way using smart contracts: it takes just a few clicks to get a legally compliant clean energy certificate that is applicable across borders and sectors. Blockchain can also facilitate transactions between producers and consumers of carbon-neutral energy.

What does a Clean Energy Certificate look like?

With the Clean Energy Certificate, you can easily prove how sustainable your product is.

A certificate shows at a glance

  •  Product carbon footprint
  •  Asset type
  •  Geographical location
  • Production capacity & date

… and more!

Certified green hydrogen from chlor-alkali electrolysis

We ran a pilot project to test our Clean Energy Certification solution for green hydrogen produced at Nobian’s chlor-alkali electrolysis plant in Germany.

Haru Oni - where the future of e-fuels starts

Did you know that "Haru Oni" means "Strong Wind" in the indigenous language of the native people of Chile?

Discover how we use the Clean Energy Certification system to prove the green origin of the e-fuels produced from wind power.

Transparent and trustworthy certification system applicable across sector and borders

As a result of automated and tamper-proof recording and tracking of energy-specific data, Clean Energy Certificates are valid around the world throughout the entire Power-to-X value chain.

Questions are always welcome

Sustainability certificates such as Siemens Energy's Clean Energy Certificates enable "Sustainability Claims" in an automated, tamper-proof, and government-approved manner. Sustainably certified products have a higher market value and offer benefits like customs and tax relief for imports and exports. These certifications are required by all companies that wish to market their products as sustainable. With Siemens Energy's Clean Energy Certificates, you can trace the green origin of your products throughout the entire Power-to-X value chain.

Whether you are planning your facility or you have already established a production facility, you can connect to the Clean Energy Certification System. We will connect the Clean Energy Certification system with your Instrumentation and Control system to access your measurement data and generate certificates for your products. Plant shutdowns are usually not necessary.

The certification process is comparable to classic ISO certifications, but the products are continuously certified per production unit. To receive the corresponding certificate, companies must adhere to a so-called mass balance approach. The mass balance is used to determine the proportion of sustainable raw materials in the end product.

We will advise you to choose the optimal certification scheme for your business purposes and prepare the certification together with you. There are document checklists depending on the selected certification scheme. A detailed list of required documents will be provided to you so that you can prepare your certification in a structured manner.

In order to apply an internationally accepted certification standard, we are partnering with Certification Bodies.

It is important to distinguish between two types of fees. An onboarding fee is charged during the connection and commissioning of the Clean Energy Certification System. Later on, each certificate creation and transfer transaction will incur a fee.

The Clean Energy Certification System is based on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). The use of Private Public Key settings ensures a high level of security. All data is encrypted, stored only at the customer's site and not shared with other partners without explicit permission and key settings.
